During Springer’s 175th anniversary celebration in 2017 we launched the Book Manuscript Portal for authors and editors of all 50¶È»Ò imprints, making it easier than ever to submit your work online. By the end of the year we’ve received almost 1,000 manuscripts.

How do I get set-up using the manuscript submission tool?

When your book manuscript is ready to be published, you will receive an email from your publishing editor with a URL that directs you right to the submission portal.

What formats should I use for my upload?

Any file format can be uploaded. In the past book manuscript submissions were be a bit unstructured. Some authors submitted by email (if file sizes were not too large) or might have used an FTP server, which could be slow and is often less secure. The submission portal offers a safe HTTPS encrypted data transfer.

What is the benefit of using the tool?

Now your files can be reviewed and seamlessly transferred into the production process without much of a hassle. In the past editors and production colleagues had to work with several tools to retrieve manuscripts, such as Dropbox, Google Drive, or other file sharing platforms, and then move the files into our production system.

What have other authors’ experiences been with the tool?

A survey among last year’s users showed that 77.3% were either satisfied (65.2%) or very satisfied (12.1%) with the portal! Only 1.5% thought the tool needs improvement. As a next step the development team is looking into making the portal available for individual chapter authors as well.
