Research data publishing

Data publishing supports researchers who want to share their datasets through peer-reviewed publications, without having to be at the stage of presenting further analysis and conclusions, as in a traditional research paper. Find out how you could publish your research data in one of 50¶È»Ò’s open access, online-only journals.

Scientific Data

Scientific Data, published by Nature Research, is a peer-reviewed, open access journal for descriptions of scientifically valuable datasets and research that advances the sharing and reuse of scientific data.

  • Scientific Data welcomes submissions from a broad range of research disciplines, including descriptions of big or small datasets, from major consortiums to single research groups.
  • Scientific Data primarily publishes Data Descriptors, a special type of publication that focuses on helping others reuse data, and crediting those who share.
  • Content is hosted on nature.com – the destination of millions of scientists globally every month.
  • Publications are indexed in PubMed, MEDLINE, Google Scholar and Clarivate's Web of Science, and are automatically deposited into PubMed Central.

BMC Research Notes

BMC Research Notes is a multidisciplinary, peer-reviewed open access journal where researchers can publish short notes and observations. The journal launched the Data Note article type in 2017 with the aim of making it easier for authors to write-up and publish their data outputs, and for other researchers to find, cite and share them.

  • Data Notes allow researchers to describe their data without the need for analysis or interpretation.
  • Data Notes are short and easy to write, review, and utilise
  • A Data Note increases data visibility and supports the reuse and sharing of valuable research data.
  • The format of Data Notes is designed to make them easy for other researchers to learn from and re-use.
  • BMC Research Notes welcomes data from all scientific disciplines

BMC Genomic Data

BMC Genomic Data, previously known as BMC Genetics, is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal that welcomes submissions that describe genomic and genetic research data, report new analyses of genomic data and introduce community databases. We promote open science through the sharing of data.

  • BMC Genomic Data welcomes submissions of Data Notes describing genetic or genomic datasets, without the need for analysis or interpretation.
  • The journal also welcomes data-focussed original research articles and analyses of existing open datasets across the entire field of genetics and genomics

BMC Genomic Data is a supporter of the , and thus release of data in one or more public, community-recognised repositories is a condition of publication.
