Education is changing at an ever-increasing pace. Macmillan Education is at the forefront of this change, providing solutions that enhance the teaching and learning experience for everyone, at every stage of education.

As technology opens new doors for teachers and students, we use our expertise to create products that suit different learning styles and design innovative new tools for teachers and students.

We produce high-quality, trusted educational materials and provide support to teachers and students, so they can get the most from what we publish.

Our two divisions, Language Learning and Schools Curriculum, inspire a lifetime of learning.

Our History

Macmillan van

In 1843, brothers Daniel and Alexander Macmillan founded a publishing company to champion great writing. They soon made their mark on the literary world, publishing works by Lewis Carroll, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Thomas Hardy and Rudyard Kipling to name but a few.

As the company grew, so did the two brothers’ belief in the importance of learning. They launched the scientific research journal Nature, followed by the Palgrave imprint, promoting education and academic scholarship around the world. Both continue to be at the forefront of ground-breaking research to this day.

When former British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan became Chairman, he established the company as a world-leading educational publisher with an outstanding reputation. At Macmillan Education, we continue to build on this rich heritage by creating pioneering and forward-thinking educational materials for communities around the world.

" Educational Publishing is a wonderful industry to work in. In comparison to teachers and institutions, we play a relatively small role in educating millions of students worldwide, but it’s definitely a role that we can feel very proud of. Ours is an industry that’s focused on people. We help teachers worldwide and we are a small contributor to a much better future that will be in the hands of those that are students today."
